Edvard Mirzoyan

Eduard Mirzoyan Mikajeli (Armenian Էդուարդ Միքայելի Միրզոյան; born May 12, 1921 in Gori, Georgia; † 5 October 2012 in Yerevan ) was an Armenian and Soviet composer and politician.

Life

Mirosjan is the son of the composer Mikhail Mirzoyan. 1924 moved his family to Armenia.

He studied composition with Wardkes Taljan to 1941 at the Conservatory of Yerevan, and moved to the Armenian Cultural Centre in Moscow. There arose in 1947 his first ' String Quartet ' (1947). 1948 began on Komitas Conservatory of Yerevan Mirsojan to teach and was from 1972 to 1986 Head of the Composition Department. From 1957 to 1991, Mirzoyan President of the Union of Armenian composers.

Stylistic influences learned Mirsojans work of Sergei Prokofiev, Dmitri Shostakovich and Béla Bartók and of Armenian folk songs.

His output includes orchestral works, chamber music, vocal works and piano pieces. Among his best known works include the Symphony for strings and timpani (1962), the Poem Epitaph In memoriam Aram Khachaturian (1988 ) and the piano cycle album for my granddaughter (1984). He also composed film music, was well known in Armenia, the lyrical episode Susanik from the movie chaos.

Mirzoyan was from 1959 to 1990 deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR and 1989 to 1991 Member of the Congress of People's Deputies of the Soviet Union. He has received numerous awards, including 1981 as a People's Artist of the USSR.
