Edward Daly (bishop)

Edward Kevin Daly ( born December 5, 1933, Belleek ) is retired Bishop of Derry.

Life

Edward Kevin Daly received on 16 March 1957, the ordination.

1972 Daly was as pastor at St. Eugene's Cathedral witnessed the become known as Bloody Sunday assault of British soldiers on unarmed demonstrators. A press photo shows Daly, accompanied with a white handkerchief waving the removal of a dead youth. The photo was the presentation by the monumental painting in the district Bogside, which is reminiscent of the clashes.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 31 January 1974 Bishop of Derry.

The Archbishop of Armagh, Cardinal William John Conway, consecrated him on 31 March of the same year the bishop; Co-consecrators were Neil Farren, Bishop Emeritus of Derry, and Gaetano Alibrandi, Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland.

From his office he resigned on 26 October 1993.
