Edward Newton
Sir Edward Newton KCMG ( November 1832 *, † April 25, 1897 ) was a British colonial administrator and ornithologist. He was the brother of Alfred Newton. The artist and photographer John Edward Newton he is not related.
As a colonial administrator, he worked from 1859 to 1877 in Mauritius. From there, he sent his brother several copies of various birds. Among other things, the extinct Dodo ( Dodo ) and Rodrigues Solitaire.
The Madagascar Falcon ( Falco newtoni ) is named in his Latin name for him.
