Edwin Hatch

Edwin Hatch ( born September 4, 1835 in Derby, Derbyshire, England; † November 10, 1899 in Oxford ) was an English theologian and Septuagintaforscher.

Hatch attended King Edward 's School in Birmingham, which was led at the time by James Prince Lee (1804-1869) and later Pembroke College, Oxford. From 1857 he studied theology in addition to classical studies and the following year won the Ellerton prize. From 1859 to 1862 he was Professor of Classical Studies at Trinity College in Toronto and then became rector of the high school in Quebec. In 1867 he returned to Oxford, where he took up the post of vice - 1885 principal of St. Mary Hall. 1883 awarded him the University of Edinburgh the degree of Doctor of Theology.

The 1897 jointly with Henry Redpath published by him extensive concordance to the Septuagint ( cited as the Hatch - Redpath ) is regarded as a bible scientific reference work.
