Edwin Scharff Prize

The Edwin Scharff Prize was established in 1955, the year of its namesake Edwin Scharff, donated by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The prize is awarded annually since 1955; it was originally $ 15,000, now worth 7,500 euros.

The 1887 born in New Ulm artist Edwin Scharff was appointed to the post-war period to the State Art School in Hamburg, where he lived and worked until his death. Scharff was a sculptor of the 20th century.

By Edwin Scharff Prize artists are excellent, whose works characterize the cultural life of the city of Hamburg. About the award is decided by a seven-member jury, which is appointed by the Senate.
