Edwin Turney

Edwin James Turney ( March 26, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, † 15 October 2008) was a co-founder of Advanced Micro Devices, as well as between 1969 and 1974 Vice President of the company.

Career

Turney was trained at the training center Naval Station Great Lakes in the U.S. Navy in electrical engineering. After the end of military service, he worked as an engineer in various companies. In 1969 he was employed by Fairchild Semiconductor as a sales engineer, the same year the company was acquired by Motorola. Within two years, Turney could work your way up to Director of Sales and Marketing in Silicon Valley.

AMD was founded on May 1, 1969 Turney and Jerry Sanders under the name of Sanders Association and was registered in the State of Delaware. Turney was initially responsible for global purchasing and sales, customer service and other administrative functions. Turney moved in 1974 to the top management of electronic arrays. The company was the mid-1970s the leading RAM manufacturers worldwide, and was later acquired by NEC. 1976 Turney joined as vice president for semiconductor manufacturers Intersil. For his local campaign he was awarded the EFFIE Award.
