Egernsund

The Egernsundbroen (Danish for " the Egernsundbrücke " or " Ekensundbrücke ") is a road and bascule bridge, which lies in the far south of Denmark between the Gråstener district Alnor and the place Egernsund. The bridge crosses the narrow Egernsund that connects the Nübeler Noor with the Flensburg Fjord. Over the four-lane road bridge, the road Sekundærrute 401 runs ( until the opening of the highway Sønderborgmotorvejen end of March 2012 Primærrute 8), which leads from Dybbøl to Skærbæk, and the Gendarmstien, a former border control path and trail today.

But from the sea by boat traffic is displayed when the drawbridge is opened the next time. During the day the bridge is opened once per hour; for commercial shipping traffic it opens immediately. The ship is doing a clearance width of 25 meters. At a wind speed of 18 meters per second, the flaps stay down.

History

Since the beginning of the 18th century shortened ferries to detour around the Nübeler Noor. In the wake of the strong development of road transport in the 1950s demands grew louder after a bridge. Finally, the plans for the present bridge was approved in July 1964 and the following year the work that has been the company Monberg & Thomsen A / S and Aarhus Maskinfabrik transfer began. After three years of construction, the Egernsundbroen could be inaugurated by Princess Benedikte on 19 June 1968. For car drivers, thus the travel time from Kruså to Sonderborg reduced by about half an hour.

In 1996 the bridge a two-story tower, from which the opening of the flaps can be controlled. The control system, which was then one of the most modern in Europe, is now electronically monitored.
