Egg Harbor City is a city in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. In the 2000 census, a total population of 4,545 was recorded.

History

Egg Harbor City was founded in 1855 by German -Americans in Philadelphia. For over 50 years she was an island of German language and culture.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.9 km ², of which 28.8 km ² of land and 1.1 km ² ( 3.73% ) is water.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there are 4,545 people, 1,658 households, and 1,150 families residing in the city. The population density is 158.0 inhabitants per km ². 66.80 % of the population are White, 14.19 % African American, 0.37 % Native American, 1.25 % Asian, 0.09 % Pacific Islander, 13.49 % from other races, and 3.81% mixed race. 24.55% are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,658 households 34.2% have children under 18 years. 43.7 % are married couples living together, 20.3% are single mothers, 30.6 % are non-families, 24.9 % consists of single-person households and 10.8% in people older than 65, the average household size is 2, 70, the average family size is 3.20.

28.3 % of the population are under 18 years old, 8.5 % from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 19.6% between 45 and 64, 13.9% older than 65 is the average age 35 years old. The ratio of women to men is 100:93,6, for people older than 18 years, the ratio 100:88,9.

The median household income is $ 32,956, and the median income for a family $ 40,040. Males have a median income of $ 27,978, women $ 23,560.
