Eggenwil (Swiss German: ɛgəʋi ˌ ː l) is a municipality in the district Bremgarten in the Swiss canton of Aargau. It is located in the Reuss valley just north of the main town district.

Geography

The village is situated between the east bank of the Reuss and the evenly sloping, partly terraced western slope of the Clear Mountain. A headland extends into the flat Reuss level at which the center of the village is located. The Reuss, which forms the western boundary of the municipality, meanders very strong in Eggenwil that Foort peninsula is bounded on three sides by the river. Neighboring municipalities are Künten in the north, Bellikon in the northeast, Widen the east, Bremgarten in the south and Fischbach in the West.

History

The first mention of Egenwilare was in 1160 in the Acta Murensia. The place name comes from Old High Egininwilari and means " farm estate of Egino ". The village was in the Middle Ages in the territory of the Habsburgs, who exercised high justice. The lower courts they presented the monastery Hermetschwil.

After the conquest of the Aargau by the Confederates in 1415 Eggenwil came to office Hermetschwil (also called Office Krumm ) in the outdoor offices. The village part above the road, however, was the Office pipe village in the county of Baden allocated. 1529 were the inhabitants about the Reformation, but had to return in 1531 after the defeat of the Reformed places in the Second Kappel War back to the old faith. Attractions
