Egidijus Jarašiūnas

Egidijus Jarašiūnas ( born October 9, 1952 in Sendvariai, Rajongemeinde Kelmė ) is a Lithuanian lawyer, constitutionalist, Professor of Public Law and Judge at the European Court of Justice.

Biography

After leaving school at the 6th Middle School Panevėžys 1970 he completed military service in the Soviet Army. Egidijus Jarašiūnas studied until 1979 Law at the University of Vilnius and worked since 1980 as an attorney in Širvintos and from 1982 in Panevėžys. In Panevėžys he co-founded the local Sąjūdis group.

From 1988 to 1990, Jarašiūnas Member of Parliament of the Lithuanian SSR and President of the Municipal Panevėžys. In 1990 he was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council Aukščiausioji Taryba - Atkuriamasis Seimas and was in there Rights Committee operates. He worked on the Lithuanian Constitution of 1992. It was also Jarašiūnas member of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Group Russia - Lithuania and a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Baltic Assembly. He was re- elected to the Seimas in constituency No. 26 of Panevėžys city in 1992 and again worked in the Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament. 1996-2005 was Jarašiūnas judge at the Lithuanian Constitutional Court ( Konstitucinis Teismas ) and after that he worked as a legal assistant to the judge. Since 2010 he has been a judge at the European Court of Justice.

1999 doctorate Jarašiūnas at Mykolas - Romer - University on problems of the relations of state institutions in the Constitution Justice ( Valstybės valdžios institucijų santykių problemos konstitucinėje justicijoje ). He was constitutional law at the MRU University professor and chair. His teaching areas include law and constitutionalism in Eastern and Central Europe.

In legal Lithuanian and foreign journals Jarašiūnas published over 30 scientific articles and participated in international legal conferences. As a guest lecturer, he worked at various foreign universities.

Jarašiūnas is married, has a son and a daughter.
