Egon Brecher

Egon Brecher ( born February 18, 1880 in Olomouc, Moravia, Austria - Hungary, now Czech Republic, † August 12 1946 in Los Angeles ) was a German actor. He made his debut at German and Austrian stages, was active in Jewish theaters and settled in 1921 in the United States, where he first played in Yiddish theaters in New York and finally in numerous Hollywood films.

Life

Egon Brecher was born in Olomouc, the son of a professor. He attended secondary school and began in 1899 to study philosophy in Heidelberg, which, however, he did not graduate. Instead, he suggested a career as an actor. He has performed with various ensembles in the German- German and Austrian province and lived temporarily in Berlin and Vienna. His acting debut, he committed suicide, according to Zalmen Zylbercwaig in 1900 in Vienna, when he conducted the new ghetto of Theodor Herzl with a semi- professional ensemble. According to the New York Times obituary, he first appeared in 1903 in a Vienna performance of Franz Grillparzer's Sappho.
