Egon-Reiner von Schlippenbach

Egon Freiherr von Schlippenbach ( born April 10, 1914 in Cologne, † May 11, 1979 in Kiel ) was a naval officer during the Second World War and an officer in the German Navy.

Military career

1934 began Schlippenbach his military career by joining as a midshipman in the Navy. It was in 1935 promoted to Midshipman, Midshipman 1937 and 1937 to Lieutenant. As a midshipman, he served on the battleship Schleswig -Holstein. In 1939 he attained the rank of lieutenant at sea, and entered the service of the U- boat arm. He was first on the submarines U 18, U 3 and U 101 as a security officer. In 1941 he was promoted to lieutenant commander. On February 25, 1941, he was awarded the Iron Cross Second Class and received on March 31, 1941, the command of the submarine U 121 was followed from 9 July 1941, the command of the U 453, he with the to the first patrol set out in the Mediterranean Sea.
