U 121 was a German submarine Type II B, which was used in World War II by the German Navy.
History
The contract for the boat was awarded on 28 August 1937, Flender -Werke, Lübeck. The keel was laid on 31 March 1938 the launching on April 20, 1940 to the putting under Oberleutnant zur See Karl -Ernst Schroeter on 28 May 1940.
The boat belonged after its entry into service until March 25, 1942 as the school boat U- Bootschulflottille in Kiel, which was renamed on 1 July 1940 in 21 U- Flotilla and moved to pillau, as well as from 26 March 1942 to 15 May 1942 as a training boat for the 24th U- flotilla in Memel. From May 16 1942 to March 16, 1945, the boat was again used as a training boat at the 21st U- Flotilla in pillau or Memel. From 17 March 1945 to 5 May 1945, there was then as a school boat at the 31 U- Flotilla in Hamburg.
U 121 was a pure education and training boat and took no patrols.
Whereabouts
The boat was sunk on 5 May 1945 in Wesermünde in Operation Rainbow by the crew itself. The wreck was raised in 1949 and scrapped in November 1950.
