Ehrenfried Pfeiffer

Ehrenfried Pfeiffer ( born February 19, 1899 in Munich, † November 30, 1961 in Spring Valley, New York, USA ) was an anthroposophical chemists, biochemists and pioneer of organic farming. In Pfeiffer, the copper chloride crystallisation according to Pfeiffer and the method of Rundfilterchromatogramms goes back.

Life and work

Pfeiffer grew up in Nuremberg and came as a 21 year old to Dornach in Switzerland, the then and current center of anthroposophy. In Dornach, he was at times the driver of Rudolf Steiner and installed in the local Goetheanum, the lighting system and a corresponding stage lighting.

Pfeiffer studied chemistry at the University of Basel, and in 1925 he developed (in collaboration with Erica Sabarth ) the copper chloride crystallisation method, which is counted to the picture forming methods of anthroposophy. On a cold winter day he is said to have observed that the steam from a hot cup of coffee and a hot tea cup on a cold window generated different ice crystals.

In 1938 he emigrated to the United States. There he developed a method of composting of urban waste and operational research in the field of bio-dynamic farming. In 1956 the Habilitation in biochemistry.

1961 Pfeiffer died from the effects of a heart attack in Spring Valley.
