Eifgenbach

Eifgenbach in Burscheid, south of the Eifgenburg

The Eifgenbach is a 20.5 km long, orographic right or northern tributary of Dhünn in the Rheinisch- Bergische Kreis, in North Rhine -Westphalia, Germany.

Course

It rises on the mountain in rats Wermelskirchen on the outskirts of Remscheid, south includes the Wermelskirchener capital and flows through an unspoilt valley in a southwesterly direction. In the lower reaches, it forms the border with Burscheid. Within sight of the Altenberg Cathedral in Odenthal the Eifgenbach opens into the Dhünn.

At its run, several regional historically important mills were located, the Weller mill Eipringhauser mill, the Glad Taler hammer, the Mühle, the Finke Holler mill, the New Mill, the Hutzhammer, the design mill Markus mill Borrighauser mill at Bellingshausen and the Boker hammer.

Flora and Fauna

Since 2004, the Eifgenbachtal and its side valleys is a nature reserve. It extends across the communities Burscheid ( 110.6 ha) and Odenthal (350 ha). This are the submerged vegetation and fish river lamprey, brook lamprey and bullhead, also asked the dippers under protection. Furthermore, the habitat types of alder, ash and softwood floodplain forests as well as the stock of Luzulo - Book, common oak and hornbeam were declared worthy of protection.

Conservation

The Eifgenbachtalsperre caused quite a stir in recent years, because she was dragged gradually despite the monument status of the weir in 2001. A swastika relief was removed on the defensive.

Are protected as archaeological monument remains of Eifgenburg, an early medieval fortress from the 10th century to a rocky outcrop in Burscheid on the right bank.
