A field camp in Silesia is a Singspiel in life paintings from the time of Frederick the Great in three acts by the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer. This work was 1843/44 with a libretto by Eugène Scribe, and the translation of Ludwig Rellstab.
Some numbers of this music took Meyerbeer in 1854 his opera " L' Étoile du Nord" on. His first performance experienced the camp on December 7, 1844 at the Royal Opera in Berlin on the occasion of the reopening after the fire disaster in August 1843.
In the processing of Charlotte Birch -Pfeiffer this work on February 18, 1847 celebrated under the title " Vielka " in Vienna premiere. In the title role, Jenny Lind was to be seen.
Action
Frederick the Great is in danger of being taken prisoner by the Hungarian cavalry under the command of Captain tronk. To prevent this, Vielka, the foster daughter Captain Saldorfs distracts from their compatriots, while Konrad with the king exchanged the clothes. The plan succeeds, and the king can escape.
It sounded songs, marches and dances. Suddenly the rumor doing the rounds that Saldorf should have betrayed the king. The royalist soldiers immediately want to lynch the captain to avenge their king. At the last minute the king reached the warehouse and can save his captain from the gallows.
