Eine kleine Nachtmusik

The Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major, K. 525 is one of the most popular compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Known by the title Eine kleine Nachtmusik she owes Mozart's entry in his works: ". Eine kleine Nachtmusik, consisting in a Allegro.Menuett and Trio. - Romance.Menuett and Trio, and Finale. -2 violini, viola e bassi " With night music, he translated the term Serenade into German, which refers to a genre of popular music in the evenings and often came to the traditional outdoor performance and was therefore often written for wind instruments. The "Little Night Music ", however, is written for a chamber ensemble of two violins, viola, cello and double bass ( the votes are today mostly multiple busy). In addition, also have the craftsmanship of voice leading and the classic proportions of records indicated that the work was conceived rather than demanding chamber music than as pure, "light" entertainment music.

The composition was completed on August 10, 1787 in Vienna, during Mozart worked on " Don Giovanni ". However, it is unknown what the occasion or what client Mozart wrote. During his lifetime, it was probably never performed.

As is apparent from Mozart's work directory (see above), the serenade had originally five sets. In his handwritten score the sheet is missing the second set; it is unclear whether it is lost or deliberately separated out. Alfred Einstein believed that Mozart minuet in B flat major, K. Anh 136 ( 498a ) is No. 3, a piano reduction of the lost second set of " A Little Night Music ".
