Eirmotus

Eirmotus is a Southeast Asian genus of small carp fish. It comes with four types present on the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo.

Features

Eirmotus are a little high backs, see with their yellowish to reddish - brown color and the horizontal stripes like delicate belt barbel and reach body lengths from 3.2 to 3.6 cm. The body sides are marked by eight vertical black to brown bands. On the head sensory papillae in the lateral line system are striking patterns. The lateral line extends only over two to six perforated scales. Barbels are lacking. The last unbranched fin ray of the dorsal fin is cut.

Way of life

Eirmotus species live in swamps, lakes and other stagnant waters of the lowlands, usually in the rain forest, are sensitive to disturbance and disappear in deforestation with the trees.
