Eka Tkeshelashvili

Ekaterine ( Eka ) Tqeschelaschwili (Georgian ეკატერინე ( ეკა ) ტყეშელაშვილი; * May 23, 1977 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician and lawyer. From 2007 to 2008 she was Minister of Justice, then Attorney General of Georgia, and from May to December 2008, Georgian Foreign Minister. Since December 2008 she has been a member of the National Security Council of Georgia.

Life

Eka Tqeschelaschwili studied at the Institute for International Law and International Relations, Tbilisi State University. Upon graduating in 1997, she worked at the Center for Policy Research and Analysis in the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 1998 at the same time as a lawyer for the International Committee of the Red Cross. In 2001 she moved to New York for five months, where she worked for the attorney Committee for Human Rights. In May 2002, she was an intern at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, then returned as Deputy Director of IRIS Georgia back to Georgia.

In February 2004, President Mikheil Saakashvili appointed her as Deputy Minister of Justice. In September 2005, she was Deputy Minister of the Interior. In May 2006 she became Chief Judge of the Court of Appeal Tiflisser. From August 2007 to January 2008, was Minister of Justice, then Attorney General of Georgia was for three months. On 5 May 2008 the Georgian parliament voted on a proposal they Saakashvili's Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. On 5 December the same year she was dismissed from office. In the same month she became a member of the National Security Council of Georgia.

Tqeschelaschwili is married and has one child. She speaks Georgian, English, Russian and French.
