Elaine Smith (Scottish politician)

Elaine Smith ( born May 7, 1963 in Coatbridge ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party. In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Elaine Smith won the direct mandate of their constituency Coatbridge and Chryston and defended its mandate in the parliamentary elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Smith attended the St Patrick's High School in Coatbridge. She earned a bachelor's degree in economics and politics and was then trained as a teacher. She then worked in the local political area and taught at various schools. Smith is married and has one son.
