Eldred Tabachnik

Eldred Tabachnik ( born November 5, 1943 in Cape Town ) is a British barrister and recorder of South African origin. He was from 1996 to 1998 President of the European Jewish Congress.

Life

Tabachnik studied law at the University of Cape Town (BA, LL.B. ) and the University College London ( LL.M.). After his degrees, he was a lawyer in South Africa and the United Kingdom ( Inner Temple, London 1970) approved. In 1982 he was appointed Queen's Counsel, 1988 to 2000 Bencher and appointed recorder.

From 1980 to 1994 he was Warden of Richmond Synagogue in London. 1994 to 2000 he was president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. In the period from 1996 to 1998 he was also President of the European Jewish Congress ( EJC ). He is currently Chairman of the Jewish organization British Friends of Boys Town Jerusalem.
