The Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate is a 1902 built villa in Canton, Massachusetts in the United States. It is as well as the associated 90 acres ( 36.4 ha ) administers comprehensive plot of the organization The Trustees of Reservations.

History

In the late 19th century, the physician and surgeon Arthur Tracy Cabot inherited the family estate and was on the property in 1902 by the then well-known and specialized in country houses architect Charles A. Platt build the still existing house with the surrounding plants. Cabot died in 1912, leaving land and house to his widow Susan. 1945 came his niece Eleanor Cabot Bradley ( the daughter of his brother Godfrey Lowell Cabot ) and her husband Ralph Bradley in the possession of the property and expanded the plant around ponds, a camellia garden and an art studio. They did not change the existing garden design and planting and so were the original appearance of the property.

Eleanor Cabot Bradley gave 1991 in her will to her share of the property belonging to the Trustees of Reservations, which could earn 1999 a further sub-areas.

House and gardens

The property is not far from the bustling Massachusetts Route 128 and offers a quiet retreat. Particularly noteworthy is the area surrounded with latticed walls garden in the Italianate style, which is at the heart of Platts architectural concept. The site is open daily from sunrise to sunset accessible free of charge, the house itself is not open to visitors. On weekends, there are often weddings take place, so the garden and the immediate surroundings of the house are locked on these days regularly.
