Eleazar ha-Kappar

Rabbi Eleazar ha - Qappar ( name variants: R. Eleazar / El ( e) asar Hakappar, also known as Eliezer Hakappar, probably an incorrect spelling ) ( he served in the 2nd century ) was a Tannait the fourth generation.

His name may mean " from Kappar " would then derive from Qefira, a town in the Golan near Dabbura ( where an inscription was discovered: " eliezer ha - ze qappar bet midrascho shel rabbi. "); or ( Syrian qufra ) "of the asphalt distributor"; or ( Kapparis = Caper flower ) someone who produces capers of drugs and spices.

About his life nothing is known; in the Mishnah, he is mentioned only once, on the other hand often quoted in the Baraita. He was just as significant as Halakhic like as aggadic boom. Particularly well known are his moral Mahnsprüche (see Aboth IV, 28-29), for example, that humans once had to be accountable and the " grave no safe refuge " is.

He was perhaps the father of the Bar Qappara / Bar Kappara ( refers to the perhaps the above inscription, some even identify the two, but possibly are the Son maxims handed down only in the name of the father).
