Eleonore Reuss of Köstritz

Eleonore Caroline Gasparine Louise Princess Reuss to Koestritz ( born August 22, 1860 in Trebschen, in Euxinograde † September 12, 1917 ) was the wife of Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria Tsarina of Bulgaria.

Life

Eleanor was a daughter of Prince Heinrich IV Reuss zu Köstritz and his wife Princess Luise Reuss to Greiz ( 1822-1875 ). They learned the profession of a nurse and has long been a deaconess in Lubben.

The already 47 -year-old Eleanor married the same age Ferdinand nine years after the death of his first wife Marie Louise of Bourbon- Parma. The engagement, which took place on December 6, 1907 on Castle Serrahn, had been arranged under the mediation of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna.

A Catholic wedding was completed on 28 February 1908 in the church of St. Augustine in Coburg, the Protestant followed on March 1 in Gera at Castle Osterstein the presence of almost the entire Prince Reuss family.

Eleanor took care of the education of their stepchildren. At the outbreak of the First World War, she worked as a nurse. Their tomb was built at their own request at the cemetery next to the famous Boyana Church in Sofia. The grave was leveled during the communist regime in Bulgaria, but now brought back to its original state.
