Elin Pelin (town)

Elin Pelin ( Bulgarian Елин Пелин, formerly Nowoselzi / bulg. Новоселци ) is a town in western Bulgaria. The city is the administrative center of the homonymous municipality in the center of Sofia Province. Elin Pelin is the Sofiaebene about 24 km south-east of the Bulgarian capital Sofia. In the north of the city is adjacent to the southern slopes of the Balkan Mountains and to the southeast by the Sredna Gora Mountains.

The town bears the name of the writer Elin Pelin today.

A number of Thracian, Roman and Byzantine ruins and finds from around Elin Pelin witness a settlement since ancient times. Also, a Slavic settlement, founded in the Middle Ages during the Bulgarian Empire and existed until the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule, was discovered.
