Elisabeth of Bavaria, Electress of Saxony

Elisabeth of Bavaria ( born February 2, 1443 Munich, † March 5, 1484 in Leipzig) was a princess of Bavaria- Munich and by marriage Electress of Saxony.

Life

Elizabeth was a daughter of Duke Albert the Pious of Bavaria (1401-1460) from his marriage to Anna (1420-1474), daughter of Duke Eric I of Brunswick- Grubenhagen.

They married on November 25, 1460 in Leipzig, later to become Elector Ernst of Saxony ( 1441-1486 ). The engagement took place some ten years before and the marriage should have been completed according to deny marriage already 1456. For the common royal household, a new palace was built on the Meissen Castle Mountain from 1471. For the careful education of their children and especially their scientific training Elisabeth was mainly responsible. The marriage of the royal couple was seen as happy and Ernst loved his wife dearly.

The Princess, who is regarded as ancestress of the house Ernestine died, 41 -year-old after a long illness. The last time she was bedridden and required to maintain a bed with wheels and hoist was used. Elizabeth died almost simultaneously with her son Adalbert and her mother Margaret. Ernst was followed by his wife in August of the same year to his death. Elizabeth's son, Frederick the Wise should have told Spalatin that he had ridden at the time from a funeral to the next.
