Elkem ASA is one of Norway's largest industrial companies.

Main products are metallurgical silicon for solar cells and other semiconductor, special alloys for the foundry industry, carbon, microsilica (surcharge for concrete) and energy.

Positioning in the market

Elkem operates more than 40 production facilities in Europe, America and Asia, and 13 hydropower plants in Norway with a capacity of about 3 TWh.

Customers

Its customers include Elkem companies from the construction, transportation, packaging. 80 percent of sales are made ​​in Europe.

Shareholder

In January 2005, the Norwegian company Orkla ASA Elkem took over. Prior to the American company Alcoa was with a share of 46.5 percent of the dominant shareholder and wanted Elkem completely take over. Eventually, however, took over control of Orkla Elkem by topped up its share from 39.9 to 50.3 percent. Alcoa has made nothing of his shares.
