Else (Werre)

The bifurcation: the right and left of the rabbit Else

The Else is a left tributary of the river Werre in the northeast of North Rhine -Westphalia and in southern Lower Saxony. The Else arises as a hydrological feature at a bifurcation.

Formation

The Else has no source, but occurs as hydrological peculiarity by bifurcation. The bifurcation is located at Gesmold ( Melle ) in Lower Saxony, where Elsie branches of the rabbit (hare - rkm 158.9 ). The bifurcation may have been created or moved artificially, or at least maintained artificially. This is, however, unclear. Throughout history, it came over the distribution of the amounts of water that can be now regulated by a building to conflict. So to have been either diverted into the hare or the Werre in disputes by filling up all the water. Today, around one-third of the incoming water can be derived from the rabbit at the bifurcation. The hare flows to contrary to Else northwest of the Ems, while the Else occupies the eastern path towards Weser.

Course

The Else flows gently through the Ravens Mulde and overcomes to about 35.2 km length of only about 28 m height difference. Most Elsie flows through a wet lowlands, the Elseauen. The Else also flows through a valley ( glacial valley of the Else- Werre valley or valley of Osnabrück ), which is south by the Teutoburg Forest and north by the ridge of the Wiehengebirge. After the bifurcation in Melle it flows east to North Rhine -Westphalia, the border happened at river kilometer 19.2 and crosses Roedinghausen and frets before they reach a total length of about 35 km at the eastern boundary Kirchlengerns in the Werre ( Werre km 12.7 ) opens. The Werre bends at the mouth by almost 90 ° to the east, so take the east-west flow direction of the Else. The Else crosses three times the federal motorway 30 ( at Gesmold ( KM33 ) in Bruchmühlen (KM 22 ) and frets (KM 15). At Kirchlengern the Else Viaduct spans the Else. The Else is dammed several times over entire flow path. A particularly high density of barrages can be found on the lower reaches between frets and the mouth, because here the flow rate of the Else is regulated over a short distance by 4 barrages.
