Elspeth Howe, Baroness Howe of Idlicote

Elspeth Rosamund Morton Howe, Baroness Howe of Idlicote CBE (born Elspeth Rosamund Morton Shand, born February 8, 1932) is a British Life Peeress. As a woman of Geoffrey Howe is also known as Lady Howe of Aberavon.

She is the daughter of writer Philip Morton Shand and his fourth wife Sybil Mary Shand. Therefore, it is also related to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (née Shand ), whose father is Bruce Shand her father's son from a previous marriage. She went to Wycombe Abbey, a leading private school for girls in England. 1953 she married the distinguished politician Geoffrey Howe; they have a son and two daughters.

Elspeth Howe was from 1975 to 1979, deputy chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission and was active in numerous other positions from 1980. She was, inter alia, Chairman of the Broadcasting Standards Commission. In 2001, she was raised as Baroness Howe of Idlicote for Life Peeress.
