Eltaj Safarli

Eltac Səfərli ( the World Chess Federation FIDE Eltaj Safarli; * 18 May 1992 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani chess player.

In 2002 he won in Peniscola the U10 European Championship in Heraklion and the U10 World Cup. The U12 European Championships he won in Budva 2003. In 2007 he won the Essent Open in Hoogeveen. In the U16 Chess Olympiad 2008 in Mersin, he received an individual silver medal for his score of 7 points from 9 games on the first board. Divided third he was at the U20 World Cup 2008 in Gaziantep. In 2010, he won for the first time in Baku before Nicat Məmmədov the Azerbaijani Individual Championship. In November 2010 he won the Chigorin Memorial in St. Petersburg with a half-point lead over Ivan Sokolov.

For the Azerbaijani national team he played in the Chess Olympiad 2010 in Khanty-Mansiysk on the first reserve board and came to seven inserts. At the Chess Olympiad 2012 in Istanbul, he played on the second board. In the European Team Championships 2011 in Porto Carras Azerbaijan was with him Second, the European Championship 2013 in Warsaw Azerbaijan won with Səfərli on the third board.

Chess club he played in 2007 for the first time in Turkish, 2009 for the first time in Spanish ( for Mérida Patrimonio - Ajoblanco ) 1st League. With SOCAR Azerbaijan he participated in the European Club Cup 2010 in part in Plovdiv and reached there an Elo performance of 3115, however, with only three games played. When Clup Cup 2011 in Rogaska Slatina SOCA took with him the second place and Səfərli received a bronze medal for his score of 4.5 out of 5 on the second reserve board, the Club Cup 2012 in Eilat SOCA could win with Səfərli on the first reserve board. There, too, he had an Elo performance of more than 3,000.

In April 2006 he received the title of International Master. The standards for this purpose, he scored at the 15th International Festival in Abu Dhabi in August 2005, when Zayed Open in Dubai in October 2005 and at the International Festival in late October 2005 in Baku. Since April 2008 he is Grand Master. Grandmaster norms, he scored in the A2 group of Aeroflot Opens in February 2006 in Moscow, at the 17th International Festival in Abu Dhabi in July 2007 and at the Mikhail Chigorin Memorial in St. Petersburg in December 2007. His current and at the same time so far highest Elo rating is 2660 (as of August 2013), which he reached in June 2013 for the first time. This puts it behind Şəhriyar Məmmədyarov and Teymur Rəcəbov in third place of the Azerbaijani Elo ranking.
