Elvira de Hidalgo

Elvira de Hidalgo, (* December 27, 1888 in Val de Robles, Aragón, Spain, † 21 January 1980 in Milan ) was a Spanish opera singer, the soprano vocal range.

Life

The age of twelve was Elvira de Hidalgo as a musical prodigy and entered into this age as a pianist, then left to train her voice in Barcelona and at Raoul Vidal in Milan. She made her debut in 1908 at age 16 at the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples as Raisin in the Barber of Seville. Her career developed quickly. In 1909 she performed at the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt in Paris, then in Cairo and Monte Carlo. In 1910-1911 and in 1924-1926 she worked at the New York Metropolitan Opera. In 1916 she appeared at Milan's La Scala, 1919 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome, in 1922 at the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, on. In 1924 they celebrated in London at the Covent Garden Opera as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto. This was followed by a tour with the famous bass Feodor Chaliapin. The now world- famous artist, married the director of the Casino of Ostend, where they have since frequently concerted. Since 1932, she lived as a teacher on the Greek island of Corfu and then became a professor at the Athens Conservatory. Here she was the teacher of the famous soprano Maria Callas. In the years 1949-1959 she was a teacher at the Conservatory of Ankara; later, she was living in Milan.
