Emanuel Couto

Emanuel Couto ( born August 6, 1973 in Guarda ) is a former Portuguese tennis player.


Couto is next to Nuno Marques, João Cunha e Silva and Bernardo Mota part of the so -called " Golden Generation " of Portuguese tennis. The only tournament victory of his career he reached in 1996 at the ATP tournament from Porto in a double together with Bernardo Mota. At Grand Slam tournaments he reached in 1997 at Wimbledon and Roland Garros in each case the second round.

He took part in Barcelona and Atlanta Olympic Games. Both times, he joined together with Bernardo Mota in the doubles competition at, but different every time without winning any set already in the opening round.

Couto played between 1994 and 2003 a total of 20 matches for the Portuguese Davis Cup team. Both its individual balance sheet at 11:10 as well as its double balance with 13:5 is positive. With 13 double victories Couto is the most successful doubles player in the Davis Cup history of his country.
