Emil Ivanov

Emil Ivanov ( Bulgarian Емил Иванов; * June 30 1962 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian wrestler. He was 1986 and 1989 world champion in Greco-Roman Bantamweight.

Career

Emil Ivanov began as a teenager with the rings. After the first major successes at the national level, he has been delegated to the Central Sports Club of the Bulgarian army CSKA Sofia. He focused his career on the Greco- Roman style. In the junior level, he still came to no international operations. In 1981 he was in Pula winner in the Balkan Championships flyweight. The further course of his career was characterized further estimates that world-class wrestlers were present in Bulgaria in the weight class of Emil Ivanov in Asen Milew, Stojan Balow, Emil Radojew and Petar Balow, against which he could not always prevail. For this reason, although he was repeatedly successful in world and European championships at the start, but never at the Olympic Games.

In 1983 he started for the first time at a European Championship and won in Budapest bantamweight equal to the European title against such strong wrestlers like Haralambos Holidis, Greece, Vasily Fomin from the USSR and Arpad Sipos from Hungary.

His next assignment at an international championship, he received only again at the World Cup 1986 in Budapest. Budapest was a good place for him, because he became world champion bantamweight. In the final he defeated while the Soviet Starter Timurdzjan Kalumulin on points.

Not convinced Emil Ivanov at the 1987 World Championships in Clermont -Ferrand. He was only third in his pool and had thus the only option against the Norwegians Ronny Sidge to the 5th place to fight. But this fight he lost and so finished only 6th place.

1988 Emil Ivanov was used neither at the European Championships in Kolbotn, yet at the Olympic Games in Seoul.

In 1989 he won his second world title against Alexander Shestakov from the Soviet Union and András Sike from Hungary at the World Championships in Martigny / Switzerland. His last start at an international championship graduated Emil Ivanov at the European Championships 1991 in Aschaffenburg. He landed on the 6th even from his point of view. After that, he was employed at no more international championships.
