Emil Rameau

Emil Rameau (* August 13, 1878 when Emil Pulvermacher in Berlin, † September 9, 1957 ) was a German actor and theater director.

Life

Rameau attended secondary school and made ​​his stage debut in 1898 as the Marcellus in Julius Caesar at the Municipal Theatre of Bromberg. In 1901 he went to Zurich, 1906 at the Schiller Theater in Berlin. In 1909 he staged plays at the Freie Volksbühne. From 1914 to 1922 he played under the direction of Max Reinhardt at the Deutsches Theater. At the same time he began his film career, and until 1933 worked Rameau in over 50 films. From 1923 to 1931 he was deputy director of the Schiller Theater. In 1932 he directed also at the Komische Oper.

After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he left Germany in 1933 and arrived via Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy and the United Kingdom to the United States. There he played in Hollywood during the Second World War and the postwar years in several films mostly smaller supporting roles, such as Ingrid Bergman's singing teacher in the Gaslight. In 1951, Rameau again the deputy directorship of the Schiller Theater.
