Emil Sutor

Emil Sutor ( born June 19, 1888 in Offenburg, † August 13, 1974 in Karlsruhe ) was a German sculptor and sculptor.

Training

Emil Sutor learned in the Offenburg sculpture workshop Simmler & Venator from 1907 to 1909 at the Grand Ducal Baden Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe as a student of Hermann Volz, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden to study with George Wrba and among other things, by subsequent stays in Leipzig, Munich and Paris to further his studies.

Occupation

Since 1919 he had his own studio in Karlsruhe. From 1925 to 1936 he worked with the State majolica manufactory Karlsruhe. This collaboration also his numerous, mostly religious orders originate eg in the domes to Basel, Freiburg, Breisach, Strasbourg and in many smaller churches. So he created in 1928, inter alia, the then largest free-floating mosaic statue of the Mother of God in Europe for the facade of the Frauenfriedenskirche the architect Hans Herkommer in Frankfurt -Bockenheim

For the Offenburg Burda modeled Emil Sutor 1958 as a sculptor, at the special request of the Offenburg owner Senator Franz Burda, a version of Bambi deer, the famous German Media Prize. The Bambi was cast and gilt bronze. By 1999, the Sutor model remained unchanged. These side work became his media attention work.

Until shortly before his death, he still led from numerous public contracts.

Honors

In the occasion of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin conducted art competition he won for his reliefs " hurdler " ( now in the Museum in Tokyo ) and " Hockey Fight " a gold medal in sculpture competition category reliefs.
