Emma Thompson
Emma Thompson ( born April 15, 1959 in London) is a British actress, producer, screenwriter and multiple Golden Globe and Academy Award winner.
Life and work
Thompson is the daughter of actress Phyllida Law and actor, director and television producer Eric Thompson. Her younger sister, Sophie Thompson, a famous child star is also an actress. Mother Phyllida occasionally plays in movies her eldest daughter Emma.
During her English studies at Newnham College, Cambridge played Thompson Theatre and met with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie in sketches, then she was a professional actress. After appearances in the British comedy show " Alfresco " and the musical Me and My Girl 1987 she got her own TV sitcom Thompson. The year before, she had met during filming for the BBC television series Fortunes of War ( Goodbye in Cairo), the actor and director Kenneth Branagh. After their marriage in 1989 Thompson and Branagh went together on theater tour. Until their separation in 1995 they made together eleven films.
With Howards End ( 1992) Thompson had their first major success, she was awarded the Golden Globe and the Oscar. In 1994, she got in Junior with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the first time a role in a Hollywood movie. She also writes screenplays, as for the multi-award winning hit film Sense and Sensibility (1995), for which she received her second Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Since this film she is with her colleague Greg Wise, who played the role of John Willoughby, dating. 1999, a daughter was born, in 2003 they married.
Emma Thompson holds a record at the Academy Awards: It is currently the only person to win both an Academy Award for acting (Best Actress for Howards End, 1992) as well as a screenplay (Best adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, 1995) could. She was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles on August 6, 2010. 2013, it stood for a remake of the musical My Fair Lady and the film adaptations of Beautiful Creatures front of the camera.
Others
Thompson is one of the first signatories of the call for a Parliamentary Assembly at the United Nations, which will be a first step to a world parliament.
