Emmanuel Jacquin de Margerie

Emmanuel Jacquin de Margerie (* December 25, 1924; † 2 December 1991 in Paris) was a French ambassador.

Life

His father was also ambassador and great-nephew of Edmond Rostand. Emmanuel Jacquin de Margerie visited the French University of the Society of Jesus in Shanghai, the Sorbonne and earned a degree in Law at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris.

He married Helen de Margerie their children were Gilles and Laure.

In 1951, he earned a degree from the École nationale d'administration and joined the Foreign Service. He was from 1954 to 1959, Secretary of the Embassy in London. He was 1959-1961 first secretary in Moscow. From 1962 to 1967 he headed the Eastern Department of the Foreign Ministry. From 1967 to 1972 he was at the fr: Ambassade de France au Japon in Tokyo at Ambassador Louis de Guiringaudakkreditiert.

From 1972 to 1975 he led the European Department at the Foreign Ministry. From 1975 to 1977 he headed the French National Museum. He was involved in the creation of the Musée d' Orsay. He was from 1977 to 1981 and Ambassador to Spain from 1981 to 1984 Ambassador to Britain. In 1990 he received a seat on the board at Christie's and was elected president of the World Monuments Fund appointed in France.
