Emmet Lavery

Emmet Lavery Godfrey ( born November 8, 1902 in Poughkeepsie, New York, † January 1, 1986 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American playwright and screenwriter.

Life

Lavery completed a law degree, but was then from 1925 worked as a journalist. From the 1930s he wrote several stage plays, including The First Legion, which was performed both on Broadway and internationally successful. On the basis of the play in 1951 as the movie confession of a doctor - The First Legion, also wrote the screenplay for the Lavery. In the 1940s, he had also turned to screenwriting and was involved until the 1960s at several film and television projects.

From 1939 he was at Fordham University working in the field of theater studies and research in the 1940s for the Rockefeller Foundation in the field of dramatic sciences.

In 1952, he was from the Writers Guild of America for Best Written American low-budget category for the script to confession of a doctor - nominated The first Legion for the Writers Guild of America Award. For the script to Damn silenced Lavery was nominated together with Milton Sperling 1956 for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

His son Emmet G. Lavery, Jr. worked as a film producer. He was also the father of two daughters.
