Emperor Chōkei

Kaiser Chokei (Japanese长庆 天皇, Chokei tennō; * 1343, † August 27, 1394 ) was the 98th Tennō of Japan (29 March 1368-1383 ). He was the first son of Emperor Go- Murakami and his own name was Yutanari (寛 成).

Chokei was a rival emperor in the early 14th century and ruled the southern court in Yoshino. He had against his opponents claim the Ashikaga clan and the Gegenhof, but most of his court, did not like his methods. So he gave in 1383 to the throne to his brother Emperor Go - Kameyama. After the two farms were reconciled, he never came back to the capital Kyoto.

Thus his line ultimately lost the throne, and he was not listed in the list of Japanese Emperor until the Meiji period. Emperor Meiji decided to recognize the emperor in Yoshino, and took his own ancestors from the list. However, the coronation Chōkeis was historically challenged, so there have been discussions, so that his name was put on the list until 1926.
