Engelhardia serrata

Engelhardia serrata is occurring in East and Southeast Asia species from the family of the walnut family ( Juglandaceae ).

Features

Engelhardia serrata is a 12 m tall tree. The leaves are pinnate pairs, rarely unpaired, and 15 to 25 cm long. The petiole is 1-2 cm long and hairy, and the rachis is hairy. The 6-14 leaflets are sessile or only short-stalked, the leaf blade is elliptic to elliptic - lanceolate, 6-13 cm long and 2.5 to 4.5 cm wide, the bottom is hairy. The leaf margin is irregularly cut or completely, the end is pointed or short acuminate. Flowering is in February.

The nut fruits are spherical and about 3 mm in size and rauhaarig. The wings are rauhaarig to the base. The central wing is 2 to 2.5 cm long, the lateral about 1.3 cm. Fruit ripening is in April.

Dissemination

Engelhardia serrata occurs in southwest China, Indochina, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In China, it grows on mountain slopes in 700 to 1000 m above sea level.

There are two different varieties within the species:

  • Engelhardia serrata serrata var
  • Engelhardia serrata var cambodica
