Ennezat

Ennezat is a municipality with 2408 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in central France Puy-de -Dôme in the Auvergne region.

Location

Ennezat located in the heart of Limagne at an altitude of about 320 meters above sea level. inst and about 35 km ( driving distance ) southwest of Vichy and 25 kilometers northeast of Clermont -Ferrand. Riom, the capital of the arrondissement is located nine kilometers west.

The inhabitants of Ennezat work mostly in the larger cities Riom and Clermont- Ferrand. In addition, indirectly play the agriculture in the fertile environment of Limagne and small trade and craft an important role in the economic life of the community.

History

Because of the fertile soils of the Limagne the place was probably inhabited in Celtic times. The Romans moved through this area to reach the Paris Basin. In the 10th century Ennezat was a thriving city that was courted by both the Counts of Auvergne and of the Counts of Poitou. Since the 11th century there were two towns in the immediate vicinity: Ennezat -le- Chastel ( with one of the Middle Ages typical irregular road layout) and Ennezat -Villeneuve ( with absolutely direction perpendicular streets ); both cities formed a joint parish, but were managed separately.

  • The late medieval Jewish cemetery of the town is the largest in France and classified as a monument historique since 2009. More than 700 graves date back to the 13th century. He is said to be partially repaired and maintained. Under Charles VI. all French Jews were expelled (see: History of the Jews in France) in 1394.
