Enonkoski

Enonkoski [ ˌ ɛnɔŋ kɔski ] is a municipality in eastern Finland with 1532 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Enonkoski located 32 kilometers north of the city of Savonlinna in the middle of the eastern Finnish lake district in the eastern Finnish countryside Savo. The municipality has an area of ​​419 square kilometers (of which 113 square kilometers inland waters) and is determined by forests and lakes. The only settlement center ( taajama ) which is at a rapids (Finnish koski ) between Lake Ylä- Enonvesi and Enonvesi located Kirchdorf Enonkoski in which 631 people ( as of 31 December 2011). History

Enonkoski developed around a sawmill, which took advantage of the water power of the eponymous rapids. Attractions

The former village school of Ihananiemi is the only Protestant monastery in Finland, offers room for 12 people, but currently has only one permanent residents, Sister Virva Tyrväinen.
