Enzo Siciliano

Enzo Siciliano ( born May 27, 1934 in Rome, † June 9, 2006 ) was an Italian writer, journalist, literature, film and music critic.

Life and work

Before his literary debut Enzo Siciliano studied philosophy, worked as a teacher and began a career in journalism in the state broadcaster RAI, whose director he was from 1996 to 1998. He also led the Florentine Cultural Institute Gabinetto Scientifico Letterario GP Vieusseux and was one of the senior editors of the journal Nuovi Argomenti.

His literary and literary critical work was, inter alia, characterized by Giacomo Debenedetti, Alberto Moravia, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Elsa Morante, Giorgio Bassani and Attilio Bertolucci. Published in 1963 as his first work, " Racconti ambigui " ( " Ambiguous narratives "). He is regarded as sober storyteller and keen observer of contemporary man in his complex psychology. For La principessa e l' antiquario (1980 ) he received the 1981 Premio Viareggio. First and foremost, he drew attention to himself with his historical novels, best known among them when I momenti (1997), the WA Calls Mozart's eventful life in memory and for which he received the Premio Strega got 1998.

Occasionally, he also wrote plays and acted as a film director or actor, such as in the role of Simon the Zealot in Pasolini's The Gospel 1 - Matthew ( 1964). During his many years of work at the Nuovi Argomenti he was mainly a persistent and attentive discoverer of many new talents such as the writer Dario Bellezza, Franco Cordelli, Sandro Veronesi, Edoardo Albinati, Aurelio Picca, Andrea Carraro and Lorenzo Pavolini.
