Ephraim Paine

Ephraim Paine ( born August 19, 1730 in Canterbury, Windham County, Connecticut; † August 10, 1785 in Amenia, Dutchess County, New York) was an American physician, judges and politicians.

In his youth he moved with his parents to Nine Partners ( New York). Later he studied medicine and practiced afterwards in Amenia (New York). Paine also decided to pursue a political and legal career later in his life. He was in 1775 elected to the Provincial Congress. Then he worked 1778-1781 as District Judge (English county judge ). He was also a member of the 1780 Council of Appointments. Then he held in the years 1782 and 1783 the post of supervisor of Amenia. During this period he was also a 1780-1784 member of the Senate from New York. In addition, he ran unsuccessfully in 1783 then finally elected to the office of Lieutenant Governor of New York and in 1784 in the Continental Congress.
