Epic Records

Epic Records is an American label. Among the most famous artists who are or were under contract with Epic, including Judas Priest, Rage Against the Machine, The Jacksons, Michael Jackson, Bethany Joy Lenz, Anastacia, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte, Tenacious D, Shakira and The Nightwatchman.

History

Epic was founded in 1953 by American TV giant and media network CBS. It was first known in the fields of jazz and classical music, including the Berlin Philharmonic, and from 1955 to 1961 recordings of the Count Basie Orchestra, The Duke 's Men and, Chu Berry, Ruby Braff, Ray Bryant, Joe Carroll, Curtis Fuller, Johnny Hodges Horace Silver, Phil Woods and Lester Young. Early 1960s were first Gold awards to be won and Epic increasingly turned to the rock, R & B and country music to (among other things The Yardbirds, Donovan and The Hollies ).

In the 1970s, Epic was with groups such as Sly & The Family Stone or ABBA zoom (only in the UK and Italy) his success, until finally in the 1980s and with groups and artists such as The Jacksons, Michael Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, George Michael Cyndi Lauper (under the sister label, Portrait Records) multiple platinum awards have been achieved. Today Epic belongs to Sony Music, the second largest record company in the world. The conglomerate Sony had in 1988 bought up all the CBS label founded and Sony Music. In 2004, the merger of Sony Music with BMG was decided to Sony BMG Music Entertainment and completed in August of the same year.

On 5 August 2008, Bertelsmann and Sony announced the dissolution of the joint venture Sony BMG. Sony acquires the shares of Bertelsmann and will in future operate under the name of Sony Music Entertainment Inc. ( as a 100 percent subsidiary of Japan's Sony Corporation). Bertelsmann takes over the master rights of some " selected European music catalogs " from Sony BMG and performs the BMG brand as " licensing and management platform for the perception and marketing of music rights " on.
