Ercan Aktuna

Ercan Aktuna (born 1 January 1940 in Istanbul, † September 20, 2013 ) was a Turkish football player, coach, functionary and columnist. Through his many years of service for Fenerbahce he is associated with this club. Because of the similarity of his style of play to that of Cesare Maldini, he was named to his playing days Maldini Ercan.

Playing career

Association

Aktuna began with the professional football end of the 50 years in the youth of the Turkish first division club İstanbulspor. In 1959, he was then taken into the professional squad and trained over two seasons for regular players. In 1964 he succeeded the final breakthrough. In his team he was promoted to regular player and after he played three times for the Turkish U -21, he was also international.

So it was not long until he got transfer from the big Istanbul clubs. In the summer of 1965, his move to the first division club Fenerbahce was announced. Here he quickly established himself as a regular player and won with the team 1967/68 and 1969 /70 Turkish football championship. From the 1971/72 season he lost his unumstreitbare position in the team and sat on the bench more often. Especially under coach Valdir Pereira he no longer played a role in the team's formation.

After the team had the game 1973/74 season crowned with the Turkish Football Championship, Aktuna announced the end of his active playing career.

National

Aktuna played 1964 times for the Turkish U-21 national team. In the same year he completed his first of a total of 29 caps for the Turkish national team.

In 1965, he took with Turkey on ECO - Cup portion and took second place. 1967 and 1969 he took part with Turkey again and won this cup both times.

Official career

Following his playing career, he attended a one-year coaching and sports management course in England. In February 1987 he was unveiled as manager of Fenerbahçe. Just six months after he announced his resignation. Aktuna most recently worked as a football columnist for various newspapers.

Death

Ercan Aktuna died in September 2013 at the age of 73 years in the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Hospital in Istanbul.
