Erebia sthennyo

Erebia sthennyo is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae ( Nymphalidae ).

Features

Erebia sthennyo is Erebia pandrose very similar. His eye patch on the forewing - top are closer to the outer edge. The dark Diskallinie and cell lines are missing or are puny. On the forewing underside lack the basal and discal dark lines or are puny. The hindwing underside of the male is pale, almost uniformly gray and unmarked. In the female is gray-brown, the drawings are indistinct or absent. The male genitalia differ only low but constant.

Dissemination

The species occurs in Spain and France in the Pyrenees. In Spain it is found in the Central Pyrenees, at Puerto de Portalet, Monte Perdido and Puerto de Benasque, in France from the Pic du Midi d' Ossau to Pic du Midi de Bigorre and Luchon and Port de Salau to Andorra. Erebia sthennyo lives at altitudes above 1800 meters.

Way of life

It is formed a generation in which flies from late June to early August. The habitat are the slopes are overgrown with grass and have rocky places.

System

Erebia sthennyo was described in 1850 by Adolphe de Graslin. Type locality is the area of Bagneres -de- Bigorre in the French Pyrenees.
