Eric Whitacre

Eric Whitacre ( born January 2, 1970) is an American composer and conductor. He composed for choirs, concert bands and electronic music.

Life

With 18 Whitacre began to sing in the choir of his colleges. He studied composition and choral conducting at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, where he wrote Cloudburst and other pieces for choir and brass band. Whitacre received a Master in Music from the Juilliard School of Music in New York City.

He received worldwide recognition for his work with virtual choirs, the choral community is made via the Internet. Her pieces include, inter alia, Lux Aurumque and Sleep, which were composed of videos from Internet users.

Whitacre composed together with Hans Zimmer Mermaids and conducted the piece a part of the choral passages of music for the film Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides.

Eric Whitacre is married to the soprano Hila Plitmann, has a son and lives with his family in London.

Whitacre is a founding member of the Composers' Union BCM International.
