Erich Wagler

Erich Wagler ( born September 7, 1884 in Zwickau, † August 29, 1951 ) was a German ichthyologist. His research focus was fisheries biology.

Life and work

After attending high school Wagler studied from 1904 to 1910 Natural Sciences in Leipzig and Jena. In 1912 he received his doctorate with a thesis on " Faunal and biological studies on free-swimming cladocerans Saxony " Dr. phil. In 1920 he habilitated with the paper "On the systematics, geographical distribution and the dependence of Daphnia cucullata Sars of physical and chemical influences of the environment " at the University of Leipzig. From 1920 to 1926 he was a lecturer in zoology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department of Philosophy Faculty of the University of Leipzig. From 1926 to 1932, he was not scheduled an associate professor of zoology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department of Philosophy Faculty of the University of Leipzig. Wagler in 1926 became director of the Institute for Lake Research, Langenargen. Here was his attention mainly to the biology of the fish and fisheries, in particular the coregonids. Through numerous studies in various foothills lakes Wagler was able to prove, for example, that the catches of fishermen are not readily usable for growth analysis and that the straightening of bunting had a negative impact on the living conditions of the Ammersee - Kilches.
