Erislandy Savón

Erislandy Savón Cotilla ( born July 27, 1990 in Guantánamo ) is a Cuban boxer in the super heavyweight division. Savón was the winner of the Pan American Championships in 2009, silver medalist of the Pan American Championships in 2011 and participants of the 2012 Olympic Games. He is a nephew of three- time Olympic champion Felix Savon.

Career

In 2007, Savón first time the Cuban Championships men's part, however, already retired from the quarter-finals. The World Championship the following year he took third place. At the Junior World Championships in the same year Savón won the gold medal in the heavyweight ( 91kg - ).

2009 won Savón the Pan American Championships Super Heavyweight ( 91 kg ) and first participated in the World Championships, in which he, however, after victories over Andrew Jones, Wales (RSC 1 ), and Gilton Benjey Zimmerman, Netherlands Antilles ( 11:4 ), in the quarterfinals to eventual silver medalist Roman Kapitanenko, Russia ( 17:6 ), lost.

At the Pan American Championships in 2011, he lost in the final against Julio Castillo, Ecuador (12:1 ), and so won the silver medal. The following year he competed at the World Championships. After victories over Denizcan Gokkaya, Turkey ( RSC 1 ), and Tony Yoka, France (KO 2 ), he lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Magomedrasul Majidov, Azerbaijan (RSC 2 ), which he finished 5th. In the same year he was also the first time win the Cuban champion.

By the 5th place at the World Championships to Savón qualified for the 2012 Olympics, in which he, however, already in the first fight just against the local hero and eventual winner Anthony Joshua, UK ( 17:16 ) was eliminated.
